Lanxess (XTRA: LXS) Acquires IPEL

MNC Capital was engaged by Itibanyl Produtos Especiais Ltda (IPEL), located in São Paulo, Brazil. IPEL is one of Brazil’s leading manufacturers of biocides, which protects materials from infestation and decay, as well as producing specialty chemicals for the paint and coatings industry. The company exports to over 20 countries worldwide and has facilities located in Brazil, Argentina, Spain and China.

On February 3, 2020, IPEL was acquired by LANXESS Aktiengesellschaft, a publicly traded company listed on the Frankfurt exchange (EXTRA: LXS). Lanxess is a specialty chemicals company based in Cologne, Germany that was founded in 2004 via the spin-off of the chemical division and parts of the polymers business from Bayer AG. With 60 production sites and around 15,400 employees in 33 countries, their primary expertise lies in producing, developing and marketing chemical intermediates, additives, specialty chemicals and plastics.

With the acquisition of IPEL, Lanxess has reinforced their geographical footprint and will be better able to serve the South American market with a local production facility. The combined companies enjoy strategic advantages which will allow them to expand their product offering, global reach and customer base, substantially increase their operating strengths.
